The Best Weekend Dog Walks In The Brisbane Bayside Area

One of the best things about having a dog is going on adventures and exploring together. As professional dog walkers who clock thousands of kilometres all over Brisbane and the Gold Coast, we have the inside scoop on the best dog walking locations. To provide you with some inspiration, we have compiled some of our best weekend walk locations in the magnificent surrounds of the Brisbane Bayside and Wynnum area.

With multiple scenic on-leash dog friendly walking areas and plenty of space for your dog to run free in off-leash areas, the Brisbane Bayside and Wynnum areas are a dog’s delight! Here are three of the best routes for your next dog walking adventures:

Wynnum Mangrove Boardwalk & Elanora Park

Approximately 2 km loop

At the end of Wynnum North Road, you’ll find a carpark for the Wynnum North Conservation Area. The pathway through the conservation area is well defined and stable, suitable for people of all fitness levels. The Northern Conservation area pathway leads towards a birdhide through salt marshland with lots of wildlife to be seen along the way.

Once you hit the birdhide and your pooch has had their fill of imagining chasing all the birdlife, head back the way you came. On the return trip, you can veer shortly off to the left, down to the Mangrove Boardwalk. It’s a beautiful walk with lots of gorgeous scenery to appreciate.

At the end of the Mangrove Boardwalk, you’ll find a fantastic off-leash dog area at Elanora Park. With an obstacle course, water fountains, toilets and plenty of grassy space to run around, it’s the perfect place to have some playtime and meet some other doggy friends before heading back to your starting point.

Waterloo Esplanade & Wynnum esplanade

Approximately 3.4 KM return

Starting at the Breakwater on Waterloo Esplanade, you’ll find numerous pelicans if it’s low tide, but also some pesky seagulls. The breakwater itself is very narrow, but if you’re feeling brave, you and your furry friend can take a walk out to the point. Breakwater Park is a favourite of the locals for relaxing with their dogs and families. It is a popular and peaceful waterfront park where you may encounter other dog-owners also treating their pets for a lovely stroll.

Just 650 metres up from the Breakwater, is a beach that is dog-friendly. ‘Pandanus Beach’ is a lovely little man-made beach where you can sit on the sand while your furry friend has fun splashing in the water.

It’s a pleasant walk along the Jetty to the right of the beach which has undercover picnic tables located at the far end. Grab a coffee and head to the tables to enjoy a cool, sea breeze!

From the Jetty, take a leisurely 1 km stroll along the esplanade, until you reach George Clayton Park. With lots of grassy space for running around, this is a good spot to have some playtime before heading back to your starting point.

lota creek reserve boardwalk loop & Lota dog park

Approximately 2.6 km

The Lota Creek Boardwalk Route is an easy 2 kilometre loop taking you across the Lota Creek and through salt marsh and mangrove forests. Commence your walk at Whites Road. The entry point to the loop is well sign posted and includes a well maintained boardwalk, guiding you over Lota Creek and through the peaceful mangrove forests. As you continue, the boardwalk transitions into a wide concrete path, followed by a bitumen trail.

Along this route, the landscape shifts from mangroves to expansive salt-marsh flats, with intermittent groves of paperbark and eucalyptus trees adding diversity. The trail remains mostly flat, accommodating individuals of varying fitness levels but if you need to take a break, regularly placed bench seats offer convenient resting spots.

Upon exiting the loop, follow the shared path towards Manly for approximately 300 meters, and you'll come upon the Lota Dog Park, also referred to as Bill Lamond Park. This well-appointed park boasts picnic facilities, a children's playground, and a generously sized off-leash dog area. Your dog can happily roam or relax on the grass, before heading back to your start point.

We hope you and your furry companion are inspired to embark on one of these scenic adventures and take full advantage of the beautiful surrounds the Brisbane Bayside offers.
